compared, with the fine print

Four tools, or one site for the whole party.

Most committees put tickets on Eventbrite, donations on GoFundMe and volunteers on SignUpGenius, then add it all up by hand. Here's what each one charges, what it's built for, and where OurStudentParty fits. We've included the places where another tool costs less.

The usual setup

  • Website for parents
  • Tickets on Eventbrite
  • Donations on GoFundMe
  • Shifts on SignUpGenius
  • One OurStudentParty site
← one total, one payout

What a payment costs, all fees included.

Each figure is everything taken out of one card payment: platform or service fees plus card processing, whoever ends up paying them. US prices, from each company's own pricing page.

SignUpGenius and Cheddar Up's free plan are 3.95% + 95¢, and Cheddar Up Pro is 3.59% + 59¢. GoFundMe is 2.9% + 30¢ (2.2% + 30¢ for certified nonprofits). Zeffy has no fees. Prices change, so check the linked pages before you decide. Eventbrite, SignUpGenius, GoFundMe, Cheddar Up and Zeffy are trademarks of their owners, who aren't affiliated with OurStudentParty.

Fees are close. The work isn't.

Questions committees ask

Is OurStudentParty cheaper than Eventbrite?
Yes. On a $40 ticket, Eventbrite's fees come to about $4.43 (a 3.7% + $1.79 service fee per ticket plus 2.9% processing). Ours come to $2.61 (1% + 75¢, plus 2.9% + 30¢ card processing). The gap grows with every extra ticket on an order, because Eventbrite's $1.79 is charged per ticket and ours is per payment.
How do the fees compare with SignUpGenius?
About the same. SignUpGenius charges 3.95% + 95¢ on card payments; ours add up to within a few cents of that on most payments. The difference is what you get: SignUpGenius is built for sign-up sheets, and OurStudentParty gives you an event website with tickets, donations and sponsors along with the volunteer shifts.
Why not take donations on GoFundMe?
GoFundMe's fee on a donation is lower than ours (2.9% + 30¢, with no platform fee). But it doesn't sell tickets or schedule volunteers, so you'd still need other tools, and someone has to add up the totals from each one.
What about Zeffy?
Zeffy charges your group nothing. Instead it asks the people paying to add an optional contribution to Zeffy. To sign up you need to be a nonprofit with an EIN and a bank account in the organization's name. If your committee qualifies and you're comfortable with families being asked to tip, it's worth a look.
Can families cover the card fee?
Yes. Checkout can offer families the option to cover the card processing, so more of each payment reaches your group. You can turn that option off.
Is there a subscription or setup fee?
No. It's free to set up, with no monthly fee. The platform fee of 1% + 75¢ (never more than $6) and card processing come out of each payment, and the rest is sent to your group's bank account once a month, with a final payout after the event.
